Pearl Lobster Smuggled to Vietnam via Batam and Singapore, Rare and Most Expensive Type

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Baby lobster or fry that are smuggled to Vietnam via Batam and Singapore are pearl and sand lobster seeds.

The joint team arrested three people while searching KM Kelud which was anchored at Makobar Port, Batam, Riau Islands, Sunday (6/12/2020).

Officers secured a total of 42,500 babby lobsters stored in three sacks. 

Based on TRIBUNBATAM.id's search, pearl lobster is the rare and most expensive type. 

Pearl lobster is the most expensive and rare type of lobster in Indonesia, and can grow to a weight of up to 3 kilograms. 

The price can reach Rp. 2.7 million per serving with a lobster weight of 2.7 kilograms.

Pearl lobster or Spiny Lobster is a type of lobster with a higher price than sand lobster. 

Pearl lobsters have different physical characteristics from lobsters in general, with a blue-green hue on the shell. 

Not only that, in their natural habitat, pearl lobster has large and small spots, bright yellow in color.

These physical features help lobsters adapt to their surroundings, protecting themselves from predators in their natural habitat.

Pearl lobsters can be found in the warm waters of Pulo Aceh, Aceh, Indonesia. 

The pearl lobster breeding is most difficult.

In fact, in their natural habitat, this type of lobster is difficult to reproduce if conditions are not possible.

Within 6 to 7 months, pearl lobsters can only grow to a weight of less than one kilogram.

To reach a weight of 2.7 kilograms, a pearl lobster takes 25 to 27 years. 

So, don't be surprised if one pearl lobster is valued up to millions of rupiah.

Reporting from The Australian, the price of one pearl lobster can be estimated at IDR 1.8 million per kilogram.

The price of one pearl lobster depends on the quality.

For the best quality, pearl lobster can be priced at Rp. 130 thousand to Rp. 250 thousand per gram. 

The smuggling of lobster seeds or fry was revealed when officers searched KM Kelud at Makobar Port, Batuampar, Batam, Riau Islands, Sunday (6/12/2020) morning. 

Three gunny sacks containing baby lobster or fry were confiscated in one of the business class rooms at KM Kelud. 

The smuggling of lobster seeds was thwarted thanks to the collaboration of a joint team from the Batam Port Authority and the Harbormaster Office, accompanied by the police, Batam Customs, and BKIPM. 

The atmosphere of the search was carried out massively.

The search at KM Kelud which was anchored at Makobar Port, Batu Ampar, Batam City, Province was tense.

The joint team found lobster seeds in one of the business class rooms of the KM Kelud ship. (*)
