Ahead of Christmas and New Year, Passengers at Hang Nadim Airport Decrease,Amount of Cargo Increases

Generally, Hang Nadim Airport in Batam can serve an average of 5,000 to 6,000 passengers per day.
Especially before the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, the number of airport passengers has reached more than 8,000 to 9,000.
General Manager of Batam Hang Nadim International Airport, Benny Syahroni, stated that during the past three days, from 17 to 19 December 2020, the number of passengers tended to decline.
On December 17, 2020, the number of passengers was 9,657, namely 4,430 arriving and 5,227 departing passengers.
Then, on December 18, 2020, the number of passengers decreased to 8,705, with details of 3,869 passengers arriving and 4,836 departing passengers.
Meanwhile, on 19 December 2020, the number of passengers again decreased to a total of 8,095, namely 3,286 passengers arriving and 4,809 departing passengers.
However, in contrast to the cargo traffic sector, according to Benny, total cargo traffic tends to increase.
On December 17, 2020, the number of cargo arrivals was 17,266 kg and cargo departed 53,643 kg, for a total of 124,909 kg.

Meanwhile, on December 18, 2020, the cargo arrived as much as 57,533 kg and cargo departed 36,314 kg, for a total of 938.47 kg.
After a decline, the number of cargoes increased again on December 19, 2020, amounting to a total of 117,774 Kg, which means that the incoming cargo reached 72,433 Kg and departed 45,341 Kg.
Based on Tribunbatam.id observation, crowds of prospective passengers seemed to fill the three points of departure gate.
Namely in the airline customer service area, the correspondence check desk area, and long lines snaking around the airport entrance.
Most of the prospective passengers carry heavy luggage such as gift boxes, suitcases and large bags.
