TRIBUNBATAM.id, NORTH SUMATRA Mount Sinabung, which is located in Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, experienced an eruption this morning, Tuesday (2/3/2021), citing the official website of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. 

The community is expected to be alert and not carry out activities within a 3-5 km radius from the location.

It is said that the character of the eruption is in the form of an explosive eruption accompanied by the formation of a lava dome at the top of the mountain. Mountain activity level is Level III (Alert) since 20 May 2019. 

The series of hot cloud avalanches on March 2, 2021 is the character of the Mount Sinabung eruption that has occurred several times since 2013. 

The mechanism of hot cloud avalanches is caused by the formation of a lava dome at the top. 

Then, followed by the migration of fluids such as solid rock, liquid, gas to the surface that pushes the lava dome. This fluid migration is indicated by a high number of Low Frequency and Hybrid earthquakes.

In visual observation and seismicity until March 2, 2021 at 9.00 WIB, it shows fluctuations in a pattern that is still high, but there is no indication of an increase in the potential threat of danger.

Hot cloud avalanches, hot cloud eruptions and rock avalanches (incandescent lava) have the potential to occur, along with the growth of the lava dome at the top.

The danger of hot cloud avalanche material distribution and rock avalanches covers the southern, eastern, and southeastern sectors within a radius of 4-5 km, while the distribution of ash-sized eruptive material can be carried further depending on the direction and speed of the wind. 

Lava has the potential to occur in river valleys that originate at Mount Sinabung, mainly due to high rainfall. 

If there is ash rain, people are advised to wear masks when going out of the house to reduce the health effects of volcanic ash.

Secure clean water facilities and clean the roof of the house from dense volcanic ash so that the roof doesn't collapse. (*)
