Death Rate due to Covid-19 Increased, Epidemiologist: This is a Serious Problem for the Government
According to the Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, this number is accompanied by a recovery rate that has actually decreased
In response to this, Epidemiologist from Australia's Griffith University, Dicky Budiman said, this indicator is a sign that is quite serious regarding the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Dicky also said, if the mortality rate in Indonesia has increased, it means that the 3T efforts, namely testing, tracing, and treatment aren't running optimally. In addition, the 5M health protocol doesn't work well in the community.
He also said that the data on the decline in Covid-19 cases belonging to the government became invalid to describe the conditions of the pandemic because the death rate tends to be stable high and even increasing.
To deal with this, Dicky suggested the government can start by fixing data on Covid-19.
Data improvement is not only related to the validity of the number, but also to dig deeper into the demographic aspects of the data.
With detailed data, continued Dicky, the government will find it easier to determine an effective strategy.
Because there will be a lot of input from scientists, doctors, and epidemiologists to anticipate the spread and increase of death cases.
For information, in a press conference broadcast on YouTube, the State Secretariat, Tuesday (23/3/2021), Wiku revealed that five provinces have experienced an increase in death cases due to Covid-19.
Based on data from March 21, 2021, the five provinces that experienced an increase in the number of deaths are East Java with an increase in the weekly death rate reaching 168 cases.
Then the death rate also increased in Banten by 54 cases, Lampung by 13 cases, Central Sulawesi by 9 cases, and Jambi having increased by 8 cases.
The same data shows that the cure rate for Covid-19 patients has decreased. The number of cases recovered weekly decreased 0.7 percent. (*)
