TRIBUNBATAM.id, NTT - A total of five hot spots were detected in Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The weather forecaster for the El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station, Natalia Ernesta Bajo, said the five hot spots were in East Sumba Regency and Central Sumba Regency.

Two hot spots were detected in Umbu Ratu Nggay District and three hotspots in Paberiwai District.

"The distribution of these hot spots is based on observations from the Terra, Suomi NPP and NOAA20 satellites by the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan)," Natalia said, Wednesday, (8/25/2021).

According to Natalia, the distribution of hot spots in the NTT region, based on the results of the update on August 24, 2021 yesterday, started at 08.00 am NTT time, until August 25, 2021 at 16.00 pm, with a confidence level above 80 percent.

She said the satellite only detected hot temperature anomalies, in an area of one square kilometer.

Natalia explained, at one location on the earth's surface, two to four times per day will be observed.

In areas covered by clouds, continued Natalia, hot spots will not be detected.

She said that drought and strong winds were also indirect causes of the distribution of a hot spot.

"The satellite image only assesses reflexivity and ambient temperature anomalies which are interpreted as hot spots. We cannot confirm the cause of the anomaly," she said.
