TRIBUNBATAM.id, MALUKU - The Maluku region was rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 and over for at least an hour, Wednesday (10/13/2021).
After an earthquake measuring 5.0 Mag at 4:57 pm (18:57 WIT), an earthquake of Mag 5.1 occurred at 5:51 pm (19.51 WIT).
For the two consecutive earthquakes which epicenters were in the sea, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that there was no potential for a tsunami.
At 5:51 pm, the BMKG recorded an earthquake measuring 5.1 Mag which had an epicenter of about 141 kilometers northwest of West Southeast Maluku with a hypocenter or a depth of 110 kilometers.
An hour earlier, at 4:57 pm, the BMKG recorded an earthquake measuring 5.0 Mag with an epicenter at 211 kilometers northwest of West Southeast Maluku.
The epicenter is about 39 kilometers north of Tepa and 196 kilometers northeast of Tiakur, Southwest Maluku. The depth of the earthquake was at 135 kilometers and there was no potential for a tsunami.
So far, it's not known whether the twin earthquakes caused damage or casualties in the affected areas.
