TRIBUNBATAM.id - Indonesia will host the 2023 ASEAN Tourism Forum.

The location for the ATF 2023 has been decided to be held in Yogyakarta

The ATF 2022 will be held on January 16-22, 2022 in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, on this occasion, Indonesia will receive the baton of chairmanship of the ATF for the next year.

Yogyakarta was chosen because it is considered to have complete capacity and facilities to host the largest tourism trade event in Southeast Asia.

The government will also optimize this moment as part of the development of Borobudur Temple, one of the super priority destinations (DSP) which has been recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

The other super priority destinations are Lake Toba, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang.

The government continues to develop and encourage promotions for these five destinations.

Some of the target markets for foreign tourists who are considered potential visitors to Borobudur include Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, where there are many Buddhists in the three countries.

Although, the government also sees the potential of other countries as the main target market.

"I recently visited (to Borobudur), I saw how Borobudur can become a destination that is not only popular, but also gives meaning," Sandiaga said.

As part of the preparations for ATF 2023, Sandiaga said that Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) could soon be operational and Borobudur could be connected to the new Transjawa Toll Road, as well as the train network for delegates' access options.
