TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has officially launched a second home visa policy for foreign nationals (WNA) who wish to stay and contribute positively to the Indonesian economy.

"With this visa, foreigners can stay for five or ten years, and carry out various activities, such as investment and other activities," said the official Immigration statement, Tuesday (25/10/2022).

The announcement then reaped various responses from tourism business actors.

The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Karangasem in Bali, for one, positively welcomed the enactment of this second home visa.

"This policy is very good for us in the tourism sector and will be able to increase tourist visits to Indonesia and Bali, in particular. Because tourists with one application can get five to 10 years," said Chairman of PHRI Karangasem, Wayan Kariasa, when contacted Thursday (27/10/2022).

According to him, the policy can also select foreign tourists who often invest clandestinely using the names of local residents.

Meanwhile, according to the Association of The Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Bali, a free visa policy will be more profitable than a second home visa, if the goal is how to bring as many tourists to Bali as possible.

He added that free visas were recorded to increase foreign tourist visits by more than 75 percent.

"The fact is that when Visa on Arrival (VoA) was implemented in 2015, the number of visits to Bali was only three million. However, when a free visa was applied from 2016 to 2019, visits to Bali increased by more than 75 percent," said the Chair of the ASITA DPP. Bali, Winastra.

This means, he continued, free visas are not only able to boost foreign tourist visits to Bali, but also have an impact on tourism actors, both hotels, travel agencies, homestays, and others.

Winastra emphasizes that this policy can be reconsidered, by looking at how much contribution can be obtained in the future.
