KKP is Confident that the Target For Fish Consumption This Year Will Be Achieved

TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Maritime Products and Fisheries (PDSPKP) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Agus Suherman, believes that fish consumption in Indonesia in 2019 is in line with expectations, which is 54 Kg per capita.

"In 2019 our target will reach 54 kg per capita. Hopefully this target can be achieved with enthusiasm. God willing, we are optimistic," Agus Suherman said in Jakarta, Sunday (11/24/2019).

As per October 2019, fish consumption in Indonesia has only reached 50.49 kilograms, aka 93.5 percent of the target set. 

But Agus believes the target can be achieved because the government is aggressively campaigning for the Eating Fish Movement (Gemarikan), especially to young children in Indonesia to get enough omega 3 and prevent increased stunting.

One of the KKP's efforts is by cooperating with various parties such as the Association of Indonesian Early Childhood Educators and Education Personnel (Himpaudi) throughout Indonesia. 

Even next year, KKP plans to raise its consumption target to 56 kg per capita along with easier access to buy fish in terms of price and place so that these targets can be achieved.

"Today the price of fish is relatively inexpensive and can be accessed in the community, both freshwater fish and sea fish. We also present fish markets in the city center, including in Muara Baru, Palembang and Bandung," he said. (*)
