Mount Merapi Erupts, Kemenhub: Routes and Flight Schedules are Still Running Normally

TRIBUNBATAM.id -  The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) stated that the flight route that passes through Mount Merapi, Central Java, is still running normally after the eruption on Thursday (02/13/2020).

Director General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation Novie Riyanto confirmed that an eruption had occurred at Mount Merapi.

It also has collected various information related to the impact of the eruption, such as examples of volcanic ash that can interfere with flights.

"Mount Merapi did experience an eruption. There are volcanic ash in certain areas. Flight aware of that," he said.

The former Airnav Managing Director added that his party had collected data from BMKG regarding volcanic ash areas in the eruption area. 

Based on these data, the Ministry of Transportation ensured that flights crossing or around Mount Merapi were still relatively safe. 

Therefore, flight routes that cross the area are still scheduled as usual.

For information, Yogyakarta BPPTKG data noted that the eruption of Mount Merapi has been recorded on a seismogram with an amplitude of 75 mm and a duration of 150 seconds. Wind direction to the northwest.

Yogyakarta BPPTKG still determines the status of Mount Merapi at level II or 'Alert'. (*)
