TRIBUNBATAM.id - Head of the Sub-Division for Climate Early Warning at the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Department (BMKG), Supari, said hydrometeorological disasters or disasters that are affected by changes in seasons and rainfall must be watched out for.
"Throughout October, our forecast for October 1 and 2, most of the rainfall is above normal, so we must be aware of the possibility of a hydrometeorological disaster," Supari said in a press conference at BNPB, Wednesday (30/09/2020).
Several areas that will enter the rainy season in October, he said, will occur in Sumatra, such as in Aceh, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Island, Lampung, and parts of Riau.
Then in Java, especially in western and southern Java.
Kalimantan in parts of Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.

Furthermore, some areas also experience above normal rainfall.
Rainfall conditions above normal should be aware of the emergence of hydrometeorological disasters.
"According to our estimates, above-normal rainfall is a small part of Aceh, West Sumatra, Lampung, East Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua, only in the central highlands, almost all of them are normal," he said.
"Rainfall above normal, we must be aware of, it can cause disaster if it is not properly anticipated," said Supari.
Some of the hydrometeorological disasters that often occur in Indonesia are floods, flash floods, tornadoes, strong winds, landslides, and other weather-induced disasters. (*)
