Buddhists Participate in the Vesak Carnival from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple

TRIBUNBATAM.id, MAGELANG - Thousands of Buddhists took part in a procession of celebrations for Vesak Day 2566 Buddhist Era (BE), on Monday (5/16).

The carnival starts from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java.

The parade participants accompany the dharma fire and the blessed water of the Tri Suci Vesak 2566 BE.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and General Chairperson of the Indonesian Buddhist Representative (Walubi) S. Hartati Murdaya released the group of participants. 

The series of celebrations for Vesak Day 2566 BE started on Saturday (5/14) yesterday, as quoted from Kompas.com. The Vesak Day celebration procession began with the distribution of basic necessities to the community.

Buddhists also buried the Vesak dharma fire at Mendut Temple on Saturday (14/5) afternoon. The Vesak dharma fire was taken from Mrapen, Grobogan Regency, Central Java.

On Sunday (15/5/2022), the series of celebrations for Vesak Day 2566 BE continued with taking blessed water from Umbul Jumprit in Tegalrejo Village, Ngadirejo, Temanggung Regency, Central Java.

The peak of Vesak Day celebrations falls on Monday (5/16), which begins with a procession from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple starting in the morning, around 06.00 WIB.

Furthermore, the Buddhists held the moments of the Vesak celebration in the courtyard of the Borobudur Temple at 11.13 WIB. The Vesak celebration will be closed with the release of lanterns in the evening. 

Taking Vesak Blessing Water from Umbul Jumprit

In addition to accompanying the Vesak dharma fire, the carnival also delivers Vesak blessing water.

The blessed water was taken from Umbul Jumprit in Tegalrejo Village, Ngadirejo, Temanggung Regency, Central Java. The number reaches 6,000 bottles.

Head II of the DPD Representative for Indonesian Buddhists (Walubi) Central Java, who is also the Coordinator of Vesak 2566 BE, Tanto Soegito Harsono said the Vesak blessed water was brought to Mendut Temple to be sacred.

Next, the water is brought to Borobudur Temple in the morning with a procession of Buddhists. 

The ritual of taking blessed water at Umbul Jumprit is carried out by monks from a number of sanghas, in turn.

Bante Kamsai Sumano Mahathera said that the taking of blessed water was carried out every year in the series of the Tri Suci Vesak.

The blessed water, then, is prayed for first, so that it becomes clean and holy water in the body.

With the hope, the water will provide blessings for the people.
