Rafflesia Padma, The Rare Flower Discovery In The Mountainous Forest of Anambas Island, KEPRI

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Not only in the Bogor Botanical Gardens, rafflesia arnoldii or raflflesia padma flowers have also been found in Anambas, Kepri. 

The flower was first discovered in 2014 in the lush forests of Anambas Island. 

Anambas Nature Lovers Community (Kompas) Anambas who discovered the rare flower for the first time. 

Kompas is a community of nature lovers, who are fully dedicated to protecting and preserving natural resources in the Anambas Islands District. 

At that time in 2014, Mukhtar, the current head of Kompas, together with the Kompas team as many as 10 people entered the forest.

They were accompanied by more than 20 pesantren students, the plan was only to find a source of water to flow to the place where the pesantren was located in.

This trip takes about 20 minutes from the resident's house. Passing through the community garden, because there are some residents who grow crops around Mount Samak. 

It is not allowed to say dirty during the trip, because this is the wild, and also not allowed to litter. 

This also instantly made the group surprised. Why can there be a rare flower in the forest like this. 

When the rafflesia was discovered, Mukhtar said there were about 5 rafflesias that close together. It is located under a tree with roots. 

But unfortunately, from 5 rafflesia flowers that been found, 3 of them have withered. The shape was already blackened and buded like a coconut shell. That's how Mukhtar describes the shape of the rafflesia flower that has been withered.

In addition to the Kompas team, the Forest Police (Polhut) in 2019 conducted this raflesia flower search. Then followed by the boy scouts in the next month. 

Actually some residents may have seen this flower, but they do not know that the flowers they often seen are the rare flowers. 

"Even though the flower is dead, it will grow again in the same place, the growth will not be far from that flower before, the diameter is quite large (while showing the photos)," Mukhtar said.
