TRIBUNBATAM.id - A farmer in Batumandi Village, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan, was arrested by the police because he was found to have cleared the agricultural land by burning.
The perpetrators, SR (46) initially only burned his land, but because he was unable to control, the fire then burned other land that causing the peat fires.
"He opened the land to grow the crops, but the fire spread and burned the other people's land," said Head of Balangan Police, AKBP M Zamroni, when contacted on Sunday (09/22/2019).
The unfolding of this land burning case began when the Balangan Police Karhutla Task Force Team received a report from the residents related to the land burning in Batumandi Village.
Residents worry that the land burned by the perpetrators will spread, making it difficult to extinguish.
From the scene, the police secured a number of evidence, including firewood used by the perpetrators to burn the land.
"We have secured some of the evidence, fortunately the fire could be extinguished immediately before it spread to everywhere," Zamroni added.
As a result of his actions, the perpetrators will be charged under Article 108 juncto Article 69 paragraph 1 of Law number 32 of 2009 concerning in Environmental Protection and Management. (*)
