Three Aircraft Could Not Landing At Pekanbaru Airport Due To The Smog Haze

Three aircraft from three different airlines had difficulty landing at Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport of Pekanbaru, Riau, Sunday.

TRIBUNBATAM.id -  Three aircraft from three different airlines had difficulty landing at Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport Pekanbaru, Riau, Sunday (09/22/2019). 

The three planes were struggling due to the haze of forest and land fires which caused the visibility that only 500 meters. 

The three planes that were still circling or holding in the Pekanbaru sky on Sunday, 08.30 WIB were Batik Air, Citilink and Malindo Air.

"It's still holding, there are two planes, Batik Air and Citilink, the possibility also Malindo Air," said the Officer in charge (OIC) of Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport Pekanbaru, Benni Netra, on Sunday (09/22/2019).

Benni said, Batik Air with flight number 6856 from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, was supposed to land at 07.35 WIB. 

However, until now the visibility on the runway of Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport Pekanbaru is around 500 meters. 

Batik Air pilots are still waiting for a safe landing distance. 

Then, Malindo Air OD 362 departed from Subang, Malaysia. 

The plane is scheduled to land at 08.30 WIB.

Furthermore, Citilink QG 936 which also from Soekarno-Hatta, is scheduled to land around 08.15 WIB.

However, due to visibility blocked by the haze, the aircraft was still circling in Pekanbaru air. 

Benni said the safe distance to landed the plane was about 800 meters. 

However, the Climatology and Geophysics Meteorology Department (BMKG) states that, the current visibility is only 500 meters due to smoke. 

Disruption of flight schedules at Pekanbaru SSK II Airport has continued to occur over the past two weeks. 

Batik Air 6856 which is the first arrival schedule to Pekanbaru SSK II Airport was forced to face the situation of holding in every morning.
