Stunting Can Infect the Baby Since In the Womb, What caused it??

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM -  Commemorating the World Food Day, the Central Leaders (Pimpinan Pusat) Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in collaboration with the Abhipraya Insan Scholar Indonesia Foundation (Yayasan Abhipraya Insan Cendekia Indonesia) held a socialization.

The theme was "Wujudkan Generasi Indonesia Unggul", Preventing Stunting from Nutritious Local Food Sources.

Stunting cases in Kepri account for 24 percent of the number of babies born in 2018. 

According to the data from the Kepri Health Office, the birth rate in Riau Islands was around 300 thousand last year.

Therefore, the number of Stunting cases in the Riau Islands reached 60 thousand for one year.

The impact of the Stunting itself is, the children become shorter than normal children their age, and have a delay in thinking.

To eradicate Stunting and realize a superior generation, people need to know the importance of the First 1,000 Days of Life (HPK). 

It is important for every family to know the role of the family in protecting their children, especially the Children's Health Rights, so that a superior generation of Indonesia can be realized.

Referring to the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) 2018, which shows an improvement in the nutritional status of children under five in Indonesia, including the proportion of nutritional status that is very short and short down from 37.2% (Riskesdas 2013) to 30.8%.

Likewise, the proportion of malnutrition and malnutrition status decreased from 19.6% (Riskesdas 2013) to 17.7%. Nevertheless, WHO still categorizes the Indonesia as a State of Malnutrition Emergency. Because the stunting tolerance threshold that set by WHO is 20% of the total number of children under five. 

In general, Kepri Province occupies the best position in terms of handling the malnutrition in Indonesia, with a number of less than 13%, however, Batam City has a Stunting prevalence of 23.5%. 

In the first semester of 2019, stunting sufferers in Batam also saw an increase of 5.61%, while the prevalence in 2018 was only 1.35 percent.

The reason is the lack of the nutritional intake in children.

In addition, geographical factors, access to the health services and the low level of maternal knowledge are being the triggers for stunting cases in children.
