TRIBUNBATAM.id - According to data from Central Statistics Agency called Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) the number of Batuaji and Sagulung residents is 280,265.

And among that number, few residents with employee status in companies at Batam, Riau Islands Province.

Difficulties, and the high cost of taking labor expertise certificates makes Batuaji and Sagulung residents who incidentally employees in the company difficult to compete.

Especially in the era of Asean Economic Community (MEA).

280,265 people are spread in two sub-districts in Batam, where Sagulung sub-district is 152,810 people spread in six villages, while 127,455 people are in Batuaji sub-district which is spread in four sub-districts.

The high cost of obtaining a certificate of expertise makes it difficult for laborers in Sagulung to compete with workers from abroad or at manager level in company environment at Batam.

"Actually, if we see, system and workings of employees recruited by companies from abroad. The so-called experts, are not much different from local employees. Even local employees are better than employees from abroad. It's just they have certificates," said Hendrik, one of the ministers at shipyard company in Tanjunguncang, Saturday (05/10/2019).

He explained that manager-level employees were imported from abroad as professional staff. It doesn't work better than local workers.

"In fact they also learn from local workers. But they have certificates of expertise," said Hendrik.
