Experience a Stab Wound, This is What We Must Do Immediately

Infection is a common complication of a stab wound that can have serious consequences.

Sometimes, minor skin infections can turn into infections of the bones or joints. Well, so that we don't experience it, we must be aware of the following signs:

• Mild skin infections can develop two to five days after injury.
• Signs of mild infection that appear around the wound include pain, redness and possible swelling. Patients can also develop a fever.
• If these signs do not improve, or if they reappear within 10 to 14 days, serious infections in the joints or bones may have developed.
• Other complications that may arise from the treatment of inadequate puncture wounds include painful scarring in the wound area or hard cysts where foreign objects remain in the wound.

In order to avoid dangerous things, here is what we must do when suffering a stab wound:

• Seek immediate treatment.
• Get tetanus injections if needed (usually every 10 years).
• Follow the doctor's instructions.
• Keep clothes dry.
• Measure body temperature regularly.
• Watch for signs of infection (pain, redness, swelling, fever). Call a doctor if these signs appear. (*)
