Batam Residents Must Be Literate of Cosmetics, Illegal Cosmetics Now Traded via Online

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Circulation of illegal cosmetic tools in Batam City is quite worrying for its users. 

Drug and Food Control Department (BPOM) of the Riau Islands together with Commission I of the Batam City Regional House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah) to secure illegal cosmetics, some time ago. The total value is IDR 2 billion.

Based on information, from the prosecution successfully secured 112 illegal cosmetic items with 238,280 picis of cosmetics. 

Cosmetic circulation mode is carried out by selling online in several e-commerce sites, and the target market is throughout Indonesia.

This circulation mode has shifted from normal. It used to still be conventional, but now it uses online marketing. This was revealed by the Head of BPOM, Yosef Dwi Irawan, Friday (11/01/2019), at the BPOM Kepri office, Nongsa District, Batam City.

"The mode of circulation of cosmetics that we secure is done by online and not conventionally," Yosef said.

When confirmed, whether using social media, such as Facebook, Instagram for marketing, Yosef said, until now it only found that it only uses e-commerce systems.

He said, the mode of the perpetrators or owners of illegal goods are using a network breakdown system. Where the workers never know the owner of the goods.

Until now it is still exploring who owns the goods. It also seeks to break the chain of illegal cosmetics circulation. 

The illegal cosmetics, if used by users, are feared to cause skin irritation and damage to the skin.

The effects can be redness, itching, inflammation and the most dangerous can cause skin cancer, said Yosef.

Yosef appealed, if the public found drugs and food that were not licensed or suspicious, in order to report to his side, BPOM Kepri.

Throughout 2019, the period of January to October, BPOM Kepri had handled 10 cases, and 5 cases of which were cosmetic cases. (tribunbatam.id/Alamudin)
