This's the Causes of 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake in North Maluku
By observing the location of the epicenter and hypocenter depth, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake.
That was said by the Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Rahmat Triyono, quoted by Antara on Friday (11/15/2019).
"By observing the location of the epicenter and hypocenter depth, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake. This is due to the deformation or enlargement in the Maluku sea plate," Rahmat said.
The results of the analysis of the source mechanism, continued Rahmat, showed that the earthquake had a mechanism of upward movement (thrust fault).
BMKG analysis results show, the initial information of this earthquake has a parameter with a magnitude of 7.4 which is then updated to a magnitude of 7.1.
The epicenter of the earthquake was felt in Bitung and Manado IV-V MMI areas (vibrations felt by almost all residents, many people woke up), Gorontalo and Ternate III-IV MMI (during the day felt by many people in the house), in Buol II MMI (vibrations felt by some people, light objects that are hung swaying).
The modeling results show that this earthquake has the potential to be a tsunami with the status of threat "Alert" for the North Minahasa area of the South (North Sulawesi).
Previously, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake shook Jailolo, North Maluku, Friday night (11/15/2019) in the early morning. The earthquake has the potential to be a tsunami.
Then at 02.48 West Indonesia Time in the morning, aftershocks occurred again in Manado and several areas in North Sulawesi.
The earthquake felt quite strong and lasted a few seconds.
The earthquake was felt in Sangihe Islands Regency and Bitung City. (*)
