TRIBUNBATAM.id - Although in the morning, some areas in Batam were illuminated by the sun, but Meteorological Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class I Hang Nadim Meteorological Station issued an early warning of weather and waves in Riau Islands region, Thursday (12/12/2019).

Head of Data and Information BMKG Class I Meteorology Station Hang Nadim, Suratman said, the weather forecast for today experienced mild to moderate rain, it happened as a whole in Riau Islands region.

"In general, today's weather conditions are predicted to be light rain with moderate intensity accompanied by lightning and strong winds," he said.

This was due to high air humidity and wind (cycloneic) swirling around Natuna region causing an accumulation of air masses which increased the chance of forming rain clouds in Riau Islands region.

Rain will flush the areas of Nongsa Subdistrict, North Bintan, Sebong Bay, Bintan Bay, Gunung Kijang, Bintan Pesisr, Mantang, Senayang, Lingga, North Lingga, Timur Lingga, Subi, Tiga Island, South Bunguran, West Bunguran, Bunguran Tengah, East Bunguran , Jemaja, East Jemaja and surrounding areas.

And can extend to the District of Galang, Tanjungpinang, Taopaya, North Bintan, Sri Kuala Lobam, Batam City, Bengkong, Sei Beduk, Batuampar, Sekupang, North Bunguran, Northeast Bunguran, Subi, Serasan, East Serasan and the surrounding areas.

Suratman explained that the current wave conditions in Riau Islands waters range from 0.1 meters to 6 meters.

For Batam city, wave height of 0.4 to 1 meter, Bintan 0.5 to 2 meters, Karimun 0.4 to 1 meter, Lingga 0.5 to 1.3 meters and Natuna 0.7 to 6 meters and Anambas 0, 7 to 4 meters.

Therefore, we urge sea transportation and marine activities to be alerted of high waves in the waters of Bintan, Lingga, Natuna and Anambas and the potential for rain during the day and early morning.
