TRIBUNBATAM.id - The construction of Batu Ampar Port will begin by increasing the loading and unloading capacity, gate system to Marine Operating System (MOS).

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) or Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC) together with its partners in consortium, targeting the construction to be carried out next March and completed in September 2020.

The Managing Director of Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC), Elvyn G Masassya said the time had come for large-sized container ships crossing Malacca Strait to be anchored at Batu Ampar Harbor.

To facilitate the large ship, one of infrastructures that will be developed is the pier pool, which will be deepened so the draft is uniformly 12 meters below sea level.

The container stacking area will also be expanded, from the current 2 hectares to 12 hectares.

On the operation side, container loading and unloading performance will be increased from an average of 5 container boxes per hour to a minimum of 20 container boxes per hour.

"Increasing the capacity of container handling is very important so that loading and unloading services are faster, easier and more efficient," he said recently.

The follow up of Batu Ampar Port development plan, intended to optimize the management and operation of Batu Ampar Port.

Where, Batuampar port is the main port for loading and unloading on Batam Island.

"For the initial stage, the development is carried out by improving port infrastructure and facilities, especially on the north side of the port, which will begin in March 2020," he said.

The initial development phase, he said, Ports of Batu Ampar is targeted to be completed in September 2020, with loading and unloading capacity increasing to 600,000 TEUs (Twenty foot Equivalent Unit - the smallest unit of container size) in a year.

For port operating system, also standardized as the ports managed by IPC.

"Batu Ampar Harbor will also implement gate system. The flow in and out of container trucks can be faster and more orderly. The container terminal area which is restricted area becomes more sterile and safer," he said.

On the sea side of port, IPC will implement MOS (Marine Operating System) application, which is digital application for scout and tug boat services to be efficient.

Then in the loading and unloading terminal area, Batu Ampar Harbor will be equipped with Terminal Operating System.
