TRIBUNBATAM.id - The outbreak of Covid-19 or Corona virus from Wuhan, China, has significant impact on tourism industry in Batam City.

The reason, Singapore is a country whose citizens usually spend holidays in Batam has set the status of orange, Covid-19 emergency.

It also makes tourists from Singapore reluctant to travel, including to Batam City.

Tribunbatam.id monitoring when questioning several Money Changer in Nagoya Central Complex Block A, Friday (2/21/2020) admitted, the amount of foreign exchange has indeed declined lately.

Through a search of several nearby Money Changer, got information that the exchange of Singapore dollars has been decreasing lately.

Guards at exchange counter said it had been quiet since the outbreak of Covid-19.

"Yes, it's quiet," said one of Money Changer caretakers.

Batam tourism which relies heavily on tourist arrivals including Singapore origin is being hit.

It was also experienced by hoteliers in Batam, since Singapore established Covid-19 Emergency orange status.

The Chairman of Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Batam City, Muhammad Mansyur said, the average hotel occupancy declined by 30-40 percent.

"So when we talk about real data, almost all of them decline. The range is 30 percent to 40 percent. If previously it was at 20 percent to 30 percent, I see it is increasingly increasing," he said, Thursday (2/20/2020) yesterday. (TribunBatam.id/ardananasution)
