Batam Center International Port on Friday (4/24/2020). Until now there are still shipping routes from Batam to Singapore, although with limited amount.

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - BP Batam Port Business Director, Nelson Idris said, until now the activities in the Domestic and International Ferry Terminal under the management of BP Batam are still operating as usual.

The reason, in Permenhub PM 25 of 2020 stated, the temporary ban on the use of sea transportation facilities applies to the operation of passenger ships serving homecoming in a province, district or sub-district that implements large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).

Also shipping between provinces or districts with the provisions of origin, transit, or destination is an area that implements large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).

In addition, Permenhub PM 25 of 2020 also regulates the exemption of the temporary ban on the use of sea transportation facilities.

Namely for non-homecoming routine passenger ship services where the area of origin or destination does not set a PSBB, inter-island passenger ships for TNI / POLRI / ASN and medical personnel, and passenger ships serving logistic transportation (food, medicine and medical devices) that have obtained sailing permit approval from Syahbandar and approved by Covid-19 Task Force in the leaning region.

Starting Today, Friday (1/5) Ferry Ships from Batam Could No Longer Enter Dumai Riau

"Batam has not yet been designated as a Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) area, that means routine passenger ships both domestic and international can still operate as usual.

But there is a reduction in operational schedules as a result of the spread of Covid-19, "said Nelson Idris, Thursday (4/30/2020).

However, Nelson acknowledged that Pelni Ship KM Kelud to Batam-Jakarta and KM Sinabung to Batam-Belawan (Medan) that leaned on the Batu Ampar Harbor pier was not allowed to carry passengers.

Even though it does not carry passengers, Pelni ships are still allowed to dock at Batu Ampar Harbor pier to carry logistical needs.

Nelson also asked the public to obey the directives of President Joko Widodo, who forbade the homecoming community on Eid al-Fitr 1441 H this time in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to his family in his hometown.

"We emphasize that Batam BUP is ready to adjust to applicable regulations, and if it refers to Permenhub PM 25 of 2020, the port in Batam is not affected because it is not part of the PSBB area. But we remind Batam people not to homecoming so that the Covid-19 outbreak does not move to other areas, "Nelson said.

It is known that Batam BUP manages two Domestic Ports, namely Sekupang and Telaga Punggur Domestic Ferry Terminals.

In addition, there are five International Ports whose management is carried out through joint operations with other parties.

Namely Batam Center International Ferry Terminal, Sekupang International Ferry Terminal, Teluk Senimba International Ferry Terminal, Nongsapura International Ferry Terminal, and Harbor Bay International Ferry Terminal.

"Due to the low number of passengers, Sekupang International Ferry Terminal has stopped operating temporarily to reduce operating expenses, but other international and domestic ferry terminals are still operating," Nelson added.

Nelson also said that Goods Port under the management of BP Batam BUP, namely Kabil General Terminal and Batu Ampar Public Terminal, was not affected by Covid-19 Distribution.

He said, the operation of two Goods Ports was continuing as usual to ensure that logistical supplies in and out of Batam were running smoothly.

"The traffic of goods at Kabil Port and Batu Ampar Public Port remain as busy as ever," he said. (TribunBatam.id)
