Caused by Covid-19, Tourists Visit to Riau Islands on April 2020 Decreased by 99.5 Percent

The number of tourist visits to Riau Islands province decreased by 99.5 percent during April 2020. The reason is none other than Covid-19 pandemic.

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The number of tourist visits to Riau Islands province decreased by 99.5 percent during April 2020.

The reason is none other than Covid-19 pandemic that hit a number of countries, including Indonesia.

That figure is 'freefall' when compared to the April 2019 period, where foreign tourist arrivals in April 2019 reached 229,250 visits.

Patients positive for Corona virus in Riau Islands are also known to continue to grow.

Data from Task Force Team for Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling of Riau Islands, recorded the total cumulative cases reached 227 people were confirmed positive.

Of that total, 44 cases are still undergoing quarantine.

Meanwhile, as many as 121 cases (cumulative number) were declared cured.

"In April 2020 there were only 1,139 visits," explained Head of Riau Islands Tourism Office, Buralimar to TribunBatam.id, Monday (6/8/2020).

This decline certainly hit a landslide in Riau Islands tourism sector.
