Increased Passenger Capacity, Will Garuda Indonesia Ticket Prices Go Up?

TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Garuda Indonesia red plate airline company guarantees passengers get safe flights, even though passenger capacity is increased to 70 percent, where previously 50 percent of the total aircraft capacity.

The airline also implemented several additional facilities in an effort to minimize the spread of Covid-19 with the implementation of the Covid-19 protocol and the rapid test service plan. 

Garuda Indonesia's Managing Director, Irfan Setiaputra said, now people no longer prioritize low-cost airlines, but rather the flights that are safe from the potential spread of Covid-19. 

"The price may be the number 9 criterion, and maybe add Rp. 150,000 for a rapid test (no problem) as long as I'm safe. In my opinion, going forward, the list of transportation priorities will change slightly, maybe we used to look for a cheap one, now look for a safe airline, "said Irfan via video conference, Tuesday (06/09/2020).

Irfan also said, with plans to add facilities, of course, there will be additional costs. But at present, the airline with the code issuer GIAA is looking for ways so that this does not add cost to passengers. 

Irfan also explained, if there are additional facilities, of course, the price must be raised. If not, then of course there must be some costs that must be reduced, for example, aviation fuel prices are lowered or parking prices.

Irfan asserted, if previously there was an increase in prices, it was only temporary, especially during the mudik season. This is because the price of an expensive plane ticket will reduce the interest of people to go home so that the potential spread of Covid-19 can be suppressed. 

Ifran also admitted that Garuda airline ticket prices are more expensive than other airlines. According to him, this is because Garuda implemented many things that were not implemented by other airlines.

Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA) Chairperson, Denon Prawiraatmadja also said, in the end, the concept of health protocol would be a value for the airline.

However, if this in the future will be a consideration for price increases, this certainly must be something to think about carefully. 

"I think, later we will look again in the future, whether it is necessary to adjust the upper limit tariffs, because in the decrease in traveler activity is expected to be an incentive for airlines," he said. (*)
