Jokowi: Build the Energy Industry, Become a Future Technology Producer

TRIBUNBATAM.id  -  Indonesian President Joko Widodo said Indonesia was working hard to build energy independence to improve the current account deficit and increase job opportunities. 

One thing that is being implemented is the processing of nickel ore into nickel ferro, stainless steel slabs, steel sheets, and being developed into the main material for lithium batteries. 

"This will make Indonesia's position very strategic in the development of lithium batteries, world electric cars, and future technology producers," Jokowi said at the Annual Session, Friday (14/8/2020). 

Jokowi said that seriousness in building energy independence can be seen from the success of biodiesel production 20 (B20) in 2019.

Meanwhile in 2020, Indonesia is in the process of boosting production and use of B30. The goal is to reduce the value of oil imports in 2019.

Most recently, Jokowi said, Pertamina had succeeded in creating a catalyst for the manufacture of D100, namely diesel fuel which is 100 percent made from palm oil and is currently testing production at 2 oil refineries. 

"This will absorb a minimum of 1 million tons of palm oil produced by farmers for a production capacity of 20,000 barrels per day," he said.

Meanwhile, the downstreaming of other raw materials also continues on a large scale. Coal is processed into methanol and gas.

Several refineries were also built to process crude oil into finished oil, as well as to drive the petrochemical industry that supplies high value added downstream industries.

"We also use the same principle in developing other industrial areas, including the construction of the super economic corridor on the north coast of Java," said Jokowi. 

Likewise, the Batang and Subang industrial areas, Majalengka, were being developed in a short time. The industrial area is designed to target quality investments. (*)
