TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The flow of goods shipments from Batam to outside the region has decreased.

So what is the cause of decrease in flow of goods shipments from Batam outside the area?

Head of Batam Post Office, Masni said there were several factors causing the decrease in the number of shipments of goods from Batam.

"For other regions in Indonesia, maybe the variable is only a matter of the Covid-19 pandemic. Especially for Batam Island which has the FTZ (Free Trade Zone) status, the variables have increased with the implementation of PMK 199 of 2019.

The dominant factor can be a combination of pandemic and FMD, "he said when contacted by TribunBatam.id, Monday (28/9/2020).

For information, PMK Number 199 / PMK.010 / 2019 is a regulation that regulates Customs, Excise, and Tax Provisions on Imported Goods.

Adding 50 New Cases, Total Covid-19 in Batam Reach 1.514 Infection

Under this regulation, the value of exemption from import duty on shipments that was previously USD 75 is reduced to USD 3 per shipment.

Apparently, this has an impact on the flow of goods from Batam along with Corona virus pandemic (Covid-19) outbreak.

Masni said the decrease in shipments of goods was around 20 to 25 percent.

It is known, in February 2020, the volume of goods from the Batam Post Office was around 7,000 per day.

Meanwhile, at the end of August 2020, it will be 5,000 items per day.

Of this number, the dominant percentage, namely as much as 89 percent, is still occupied by certain goods while the other 11 percent is documents.

Not only shipments of goods from Batam, goods entering Batam through the Post Office have also decreased.

Before the pandemic, around 5,000 items were shipped to Batam, while currently it is known that only 4,000 items were shipped.
