Customs and Excise Abort 18 Tons of Smuggled Tin Sand to Malaysia, The Value Reaches Rp 2,7 Billion

TRIBUNBATAM.id -  Attempts to smuggled tin sand to Malaysia were thwarted by Customs and Excise personnel.

Task Force BC 60001 took action against the KMN Kurnia Abadi-21 ship in the waters of Tokong Malang Biru, Anambas Islands Regency, Riau Islands Province, Saturday (31/10/2020). 

The ship, which contains 18 tons of tin sand, is known to be carrying its cargo to Malaysia.  

The estimated value of the cargo carried by the ship is Rp 2.7 billion. 

"It happened on Saturday," said Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General Customs and Excise of the Riau Islands, Agus Yulianto, Tuesday (3/11/2020). 

Agus said that the action started with intelligence information regarding the smuggling of tin sand for Malaysia

Furthermore, the BC 60001 ship conducts marine patrols in the Batam waters sector to the Natuna Sea. 

At around 02.30 WIB, the ship's radar found a ship headed for Malaysia in the waters of Tokong Malang Biru.

It is suspected that the ship was suspected of carrying out smuggling.

After doing the chase, BC 60001 managed to dock on the KMN Kurnia Abadi-21 at around 03.00 WIB.

The officer then checks the ship's documents and cargo. The officers found 3 crew members and the captain with the initials AG.

Agus admitted that the Riau Islands Province is an area prone to smuggling of illegal goods, both international and national networks.

The reason, among others, many of illegal ports that spread in every district and city.

Not only that, the geographic location of the Riau Islands is also very strategic because it is near international shipping routes, as well as close to neighboring Malaysia and Singapore. (TribunBatam.id/Elhadif Putra)
