There is something different about sea transportation services owned by this State-Owned Company (BUMN). Most notably, all the crew and passengers were seen wearing face masks.

PT Pelni is following government advice in implementing strict health protocols, through the 3M campaign (Mencuci tangan=washing hands, Menjaga jarak=maintaining distance and Memakai masker=wearing masks). That is to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Based on observation on the KM Kelud ship, several hand washing facilities are available on each deck of the ship.

In addition, the bed and passenger seats are made apart. The goal is to avoid contact with other passengers.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, PT Pelni only loaded passengers with 50 percent of the ship's capacity.

The operational staff of PT Pelni's Batam branch, Aldi said, the Covid-19 health protocol was very much implemented, both in the waiting room and on the Kelud ship.

"We always follow the health protocol proclaimed by the government," he said.

This health protocol is planned to be tightened even more ahead of Christmas 2020 and New Year 2021.

Meanwhile, Opung (45), a Kelud passenger admitted that it is safe to use sea transportation, as long as everyone applies good health protocols

"I am optimistic, it will be safe, and I am sure that the prospective passengers who are currently leaving for Jakarta are free from disease," said Opung.

For your information, the KM Kelud ship arrived in Batam Wednesday, 11.05 WIB from Belawan Port, Medan, North Sumatra. Then, sailing again at 14:10 WIB on the same day to Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta.
