TRIBUNBATAM.id - The latest earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 rocked the Sulawesi Sea, at 13.01 WIB, Saturday (11/27).
Based on the results of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) analysis, this earthquake has an updated parameter with a magnitude of mb=5.6.
Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno MSi said the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 4.66 degrees North Latitude; 126.4 degrees east longitude.
The exact location is at sea at a distance of 78 km to the northwest of Melonguane City, Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi at a depth of 86 km.

Bambang explained, taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the tectonic earthquake that occurred was an intermediate type of earthquake due to subduction activity.
"The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake in the Sulawesi Sea has an oblique thrust fault mechanism," said Bambang.
He also emphasized that although the location of the epicenter was at sea, the BMKG modeling results did not indicate a potential tsunami.
However, people in a number of areas reportedly felt the tremors caused by the earthquake.
As happened in the Tahuna area, people felt the vibrations caused by the Sulawesi Sea earthquake with an intensity scale of II MMI, where the vibration was felt by several people, and light objects that were hung swayed.
"Until now there has been no report of the impact of damage caused by the earthquake," he said.
Meanwhile, the results of earthquake monitoring until 13.20 WIB, Saturday (11/27/2021) didn't show any aftershocks in the Sulawesi Sea.
