TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The value of investment on the first quarter of 2020 in Batam has increased, although Corona virus (Covid-19) is happening in Batam.

This can be seen from the data obtained from official website of Online Single Submission (OSS) which states that the investment value for the first quarter of 2020 reached 52% of the total investment target set by Batam Business Entity in 2020, which is USD 900 million.

Director of Goods Traffic and Investment Services Purnomo Andiantono conveyed this after seeing OSS data as evaluation material.

This means, in the first Quarter, half the 2020 investment target from BP Batam has been achieved.

"Hopefully the corona pandemic can be handled well so that in the following quarters, Batam can still maintain its performance, and achieve the targets set," Andiantono said, Friday (4/17/2020).

As for the countries that made new investments, in the First Quarter, namely the People's Republic of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore with a total investment of USD 472,536 million, and there was one country that made expansion investments in Batam, namely Singapore with a total investment of USD 522 thousand.

"For new investments based on sectors recorded in OSS, consisting of Metal Industry, Trade and Repair, and Housing. Whereas the expansion is in Trade and Repair sector, "Andiantono said.

He said the increase in investment value in the first quarter of 2020 occurred because the planning of investment activities had been carried out before Covid-19 pandemic broke out in Batam.

"It could have been planned a long time ago, so this increase is not related because there was a Corona outbreak or not. It's not necessarily that today you want to invest, today you just walk right away. Certainly it had been planned in previous years, studied and made feasibility studies by entrepreneurs, "explained Andiantono.

He added that it was difficult to predict investment in the next quarter due to Covid-19 pandemic globally, including in Batam.

"Depending on the development later. Hopefully the handling of this pandemic can be handled well, so that the economy will improve. Because if not, it will be difficult to maintain excellent economic performance. Because the central government itself has said that our current economic conditions are difficult, "said Andiantono.
