TRIBUNBATAM.id - Batik doesn't belong for only one area in Indonesia.

Its existence is a pride in each region that raised it, including Jambi which has its own batik characteristics.

Jambi batik activist and owner of Azmiah Batik House, Bagus Priyono said, the development of batik in his area had several versions.

Meanwhile, according to Bagus, the Batik Jambi book that he wrote was marked by the tomb of the Pakubuwono III Family in 1787 in Lubuk Landai Village.

Pakubowono III is said to have migrated with his family and followers from Central Java with the batik makers.

"However, (Jambi batik) began to be produced in the 18th century."

"Some immigrants from Java, such as Jogja, Solo and Demak moved there and introduced the batik tradition (to) Jambi ," Bagus said some times ago.

Jambi batik motif, according to Bagus, is simpler. Some motives that are commonly found are Ceplok and Bulat.

These motifs do not appear by themselves. According to Bagus, so far Batik Jambi has been influenced by a number of elements - India, China, Java, and Islam.

India, for example, appears in simple-looking motifs (ceplok-ceplok). While China from the floral side.

There is also a Javanese attachment such as the Merak Ngeram motif in Jambi which resembles the Babon Angkrem in Java.

Then the influence of Islam in Jambi batik was marked by not to bringing up the figurative motives, such as animals and humans.

"The influence of Islam also has motives such as Islamic letters, but it is not obvious," he said. Another specialty of Jambi batik is the red color.

In fact, to achieve a natural red color, the predecessors of Jambi batik used a special mixture, such as rattan fruit and a number of typical woods on the island of Sumatra.
