Batam Threatened by Water Crisis, Raw Water Reservoir Shrinked, This Is Mayor Rudi Orders

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Batam is expected to experience water crisis within the next six months to 1 year.

Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi received information about condition of the water in Batam will experience a crisis.

"There has been information from Ministry of PUPR in charge reservoir and also ATB in the next six months to a year there will be water crisis in Batam. Subdistrict head and urban village head immediately inform citizen to plant trees in their respective neighborhoods, "said Rudi, Monday (10/07/2019) on combined ceremony of ASN Pemko Batam at Engku Putri Plain.

The source of raw water was allegedly not proportional to their consumption needs of Batam citizen.

Reporting from Batam media center, Muhammad Rudi appealed to residents grow plant trees in their respective neighborhoods.

Greening needs to be driven in anticipation of water crisis in Batam City.

Subdistrict head and urban village head are asked to inform the citizens of this matter.

He also sent message for residents to reprimand and report if they saw anyone cut down trees in protected forest area.

If the protected forest is cleared then no one can hold water so the water flows directly into sea.

It also can cause landslides.

"Do not disturb the existing forest. We have to take care of DAM and clean it up. Our reservoir used to be able hold 1,000 cubic meters, now it can only hold 500 cubic meters. Let's make our environment green so it won't be arid, "he said.

To ASN in Batam City Government, Rudi also reminded to continue planting trees and taking care of trees that have been planted.

He said this to prevent undesirable things from happening in the future.

"About greening is still valid. Move back additional work such as planting trees and fertilizing. If possible, one employee will plant one tree. Don't let it become a new problem, we will solve it, "he said. (batam media center)
