Jokowi Signs on Presidential Regulation, President's Speech on Abroad Must Use Indonesian Language

TRIBUNBATAM.id - President Joko Widodo has signed the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 63 of 2019 concerning the Use of Indonesian Language. 

This Presidential Regulation stipulates that the President, Vice President and other state officials must make speeches in Indonesian both domestically and internationally.

"Indonesian must be used in official speeches of the President, Vice President and other state officials delivered inside or outside the country," read Article 5 of the Presidential Regulation, as quoted from Setkab.go.id, Wednesday (10/9/2019 ).

The next article regulates in more detail official speeches at Indonesia and official speeches on abroad.

Domestically, the President / Vice President and other officials must speak Indonesian both at national and international forums.

Meanwhile, the rules regarding 'official speeches abroad' also stipulate the same thing, which is obligatory to use Indonesian. 

International forums abroad referred to in the Perpres are organized by the United Nations (UN), international organizations or recipient countries. 

"Submitting the official speech of the President and / or Vice President as intended can be accompanied by a translator," read Article 18 of the Presidential Regulation.

This Presidential Regulation comes into force on the date of promulgation, namely on 30 September 2019 by the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly.

This Perpres replaces the previous Perpres numbered 16 of 2010 issued in the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono era. (*)
