Jokowi Signs on Presidential Regulation, President's Speech on Abroad Must Use Indonesian Language
President Joko Widodo has signed the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 63 of 2019 concerning the Use of Indonesian Language.
"Indonesian must be used in official speeches of the President, Vice President and other state officials delivered inside or outside the country," read Article 5 of the Presidential Regulation, as quoted from Setkab.go.id, Wednesday (10/9/2019 ).
Domestically, the President / Vice President and other officials must speak Indonesian both at national and international forums.
International forums abroad referred to in the Perpres are organized by the United Nations (UN), international organizations or recipient countries.
This Presidential Regulation comes into force on the date of promulgation, namely on 30 September 2019 by the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly.
This Perpres replaces the previous Perpres numbered 16 of 2010 issued in the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono era. (*)
