Frequent in Consumption Lattes? Be Careful! Can Increase the Risk of Diabetes

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Latte is a favorite among people who want to consume coffee, but still in a sweet taste on the tongue. Unfortunately, the sugar content in these drinks is relatively high.

Consumption of drinks containing sugar, including soft drinks, juices, and also milk coffee such as lattes, are known to increase the risk of diabetes mellitus.

According to the research team from Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. Their findings say, consumption of sweet drinks that make the risk of developing diabetes "moderate". 

The study was conducted by tracking the intake of sweet drinks in 192,000 participants for 26 years. The health status of the respondents was examined every 4 years.

According to nutrition counselor in diabetes, Alexis Elliott, many people don't realize how much sugar is in a can of soda or other drinks.

Here are some of the sugar content in many people's favorite drinks, as quoted by Healthline: 

- One can of 350 ml coca cola contains 39 grams of sugar.

- One glass of 375 ml fruit juice contains 30.9 grams of sugar.

- One cup (tall) Chai Tea Latte in Starbuck contains 32
gram of sugar.

- A quarter cup of chocolate covered with sugar nuts contains 29 grams of sugar

"Even though juice contains certain nutrients, the consumption must still be limited," said Dr. Frank Hu, professor of nutrition and epidemiology.

An easy way to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes is to limit your intake of foods and drinks that are high in sugar.

Replacing a can of soda or a packet of fruit juice with water or coffee without sugar is enough to help reduce the risk of diabetes by 2-10 percent.

Elliot stressed, sugar can be more addictive, than heroin.

"But we are exposed to sugar all the time and people consider it normal, compared to other addictive substances. So, it is more difficult to avoid the sugar addiction," he explained.
