What should be the attention of President Joko Widodo towards Batam for the next five years (2019-2024)?

The question is worth asking so the message of Batam in second period of Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin, its direction and target is precise and useful.

In my opinion, there are at least three messages that need to be realized as policies to make Batam developed, modern and world-class region.

First, in the context of Batam as a border area with Singapore and Malaysia, President Jokowi must resolve the issue of Fligth Information Region (FIR) as state sovereignty.

Since 1946 with the decision of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Singapore has been designated as country authorized to manage air.

Until now, ICAO decision has not been revoked and Singapore still controls the air that crosses Batam Island.

Ahead of the inauguration on October 20, Jokowi paid a state visit to Singapore and discussed FIR issue with Lee Shien Long, Prime Minister of Singapore.

It was stated that Indonesia and Singapore had an agreement to complete it as the air sovereignty for Indonesian state.

Second, in the context of developing Batam Island as an investment area, this issue of legal certainty must be top priority.

Management of Batam area until now seems inconsistent.
