Christmas and Year-End Holidays Encourage the Community Consumption, National Online Shopping Day

TRIBUNBATAM.id -  DBS Group Research projects that online sales will increase with the National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas) at the end of the year.

Even though online sales will increase, DBS actually predicts that consumption growth in the second semester will slow down compared to semester I of 2019. Because of the low government subsidies.

Consumption outside Java may be affected by falling commodity prices, such as palm oil (CPO) and coal.  

"Retail sales will rise at Christmas and at the end of the year. "Retail companies can increase their sales during this time period, but the rise of online retail and e-commerce can be a challenge for retail companies," DBS Group Research analyst, David Arie Hartono said in a press release on Sunday (10/27/2019). 

Furthermore, other DBS Group Research analysts Andy SIM and Cheria also explained that although the contribution of online sales to total retail sales has not yet reached a significant figure, online sales have grown very rapidly. 

In addition, online sales such as e-commerce do have an important role in the retail industry in Indonesia.

In line with the findings of DBS Group Research, a Bank Indonesia (BI) survey projects that retail sales in the third quarter of 2019 will slow down compared to the previous quarter.
