US-China Back in Conflict Over the Election Locations for Meetings

TRIBUNBATAM.id - President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping again clashed because the planned location of the meeting was not agreed upon.

Meanwhile, those that triggered problems related to meeting locations were related to meeting location requirements set by the two countries.

Launching from CNBC, Thursday (11/07/2019), it is likely that this meeting will be postponed until December 2019 where both of them need time to agree on the submission of new place requirements for the meeting. 

A senior US administration official said that the White House was still trying to reach an agreement with Beijing.

On November 16, 2019 the meeting was canceled because the conditions were not conducive in Chile, but the two countries still opened the possibility for negotiations. 

"The first order is to complete the negotiations," this official said. 

He noted that a potential place was just one of the elements discussed by the US and China. Some other potential regions for the meeting of the two countries are Sweden and Switzerland. But the two regions are still being considered.

Trump has suggested Switzerland as a possible meeting location for the signing of the agreement since February this year. He stated that there is no more neutral place than Switzerland. 

The European region is also considered to be a relatively neutral region for the two leaders of this country to continue signing the negotiations. But both are aware of the political conditions in signing agreements outside the US and China territories.

Trump is scheduled to be in London for a meeting of NATO leaders on 3-4 December 2019. His closest people say that the signing of the agreement could have taken place in the area around London before or after Trump's visit. 

The United States and China have been at loggerheads over the location of the meeting for a long time.

The US suggested hosting a meeting in Iowa to showcase the agricultural benefits of a potential agreement. But China advises Hawaii or Alaska, with a preference that the Alaska region could revive their second partnership related to liquefied natural gas. 

Long before that, in February 2019 the initial stage of discussion of the agreement, Xi suggested the two leaders meet in Asia after the Trump Summit in Vietnam.

A few months later, the two countries discussed the signing of a summit at one of Trump's resorts, Mar-a-Lago in Florida. (*)
