TRIBUNBATAM.id - KPK Deputy Chairman Saut Situmorang still hopes that President Jokowi issues a Perppu to cancel the KPK Law.

Saut said that the commemoration of Anti-corruption Day on 9 December could be the right momentum for the President to issue a Perppu.

Regarding the Constitutional Court's decision not to accept the petition for judicial review of the KPK Law submitted by students, Saut respected.

He claimed to see the development of the extent to which the new KPK Law was effective in efforts to eradicate corruption

Saut said the new KPK Law was a condition with the potential to support perpetrators of criminal acts of corruption.

Although, said Saut, the judicial review of the KPK Law in the Constitutional Court (MK) still continues, according to him Perppu is more efficient and elegant to be issued.

Saut said Indonesia must be ashamed of the UN anti-corruption charter, the Jakarta Principles, which were born in Indonesia.

The convention gave birth to a number of breakthroughs and commitments regarding combating corruption

Laode M Syarif also said the same thing. He hoped that there was wisdom from Jokowi in issuing the KPPU Perppu.

Syarif said KPK employees and the wider community saw 26 points of weakness in the new KPK Law, specifically related to the independence of the KPK.

In addition, the process of making the revised Act was also considered problematic, both in terms of formal and material.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would not issue a presidential regulation in lieu of a law (Perppu) to cancel the 19/2019 Law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Presidential Spokesman, Fadjroel Rachman said, the revised KPK Law had officially been in force since October 17, 2019.

Fadjroel welcomed the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which rejected the judicial review lawsuit filed by dozens of students from various universities, against the KPK Law. (Theresia Felisiani/Ilham Rian Pratama)
