Luhut: Indonesian Tourism Sector being Loss of up to 500 Million US Dollars due to Corona Virus
The losses suffered by the tourism sector due to the outbreak of the corona virus reached till 500 million US dollars. Here's the details.
TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said, the losses suffered by the tourism sector due to the outbreak of the Corona virus reached till 500 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp 7 trillion.
"Data from Bank Indonesia, losses in tourism reached 500 million US dollars per month," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (2/25/2020).
When compared to other countries, continued Luhut, foreign tourists from China who visited Indonesia only reached 2 million visitors. However, the value of foreign exchange is quite significant for the Republic of Indonesia.
Luhut also mentioned, the presence of foreign tourists from China globally reached 173 million people. This number is equivalent to 270 billion US dollars or Rp 3,753 trillion.
According to Luhut, the presence of these tourists has a positive and extraordinary impact on micro, small and medium business (UMKM) traders.
An incentive scheme for the tourism sector due to the impact of Corona virus will be established and announced today, Tuesday (02/25/2020). Determination and announcement will be made after a limited meeting with President Joko Widodo.
This was said by Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama Kusubandio after the Coordination Meeting at the Office of the Ministry of Economy, Jakarta, Monday (2/24/2020).
The meeting discussed about the stimulus of the tourism sector, housing and basic food stimulus, and reports on the development of the aviation fuel policy. (*)
