From Batam, President Jokowi Ensures There's No Lockdown: We Want Economic Activities to Keep Going
President Joko Widodo ensured there were no lockdowns in dealing with the Coronavirus or Covid-19. Here's the statement.
The President revealed the reason the government prefers Large Scale Social Restrictions (PSSB) over regional quarantine or lockdown.
Jokowi said the decision was taken for economic reasons.
The government wants economic activities in the community to keep going.
"Economic activity continues to run as before, but all people must keep their distance," Jokowi said while at the Covid-19 Emergency Hospital on Galang Island, Batam, Riau Islands, Wednesday (1/4/2020).
According to Jokowi, the most important thing is that people must be disciplined in keeping their distance from each other. In addition, people are reminded to always maintain cleanliness.
"So, if we are all disciplined and apply a safe distance, diligently washing hands after carrying out activities, do not touch the nose, mouth, and eyes. Always keep our hands clean, so that transmission can be prevented," he said.
Jokowi also asked all regions to follow the central decision to implement the PSBB in accordance with government regulations that have been issued. (*)
