The Government of Indonesia Establishes a Prohibition of Homecoming, Begins on April 24 2020

TRIBUNBATAM.id -  Ad-interim Minister of Transportation, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said, the homecoming ban will be imposed starting April 24, 2020.

The decision to prohibit going home cannot be separated from the results of a survey by the Ministry of Transportation which recorded that 24 percent of the residents were still determined to carry out the homecoming.

Even though there was a previous appeal from the government not to do homecoming. 

"The ban of this homecoming will be effective as of Friday, April 24, 2020," he said after holding a limited meeting via video conference, Jakarta, Tuesday (4/21/2020).

This homecoming ban applies to the Greater Jakarta area and areas that have been established to apply the status of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) and also the coronavirus red zone region.

Luhut explained, the homecoming ban scheme would later not allow traffic for people to go in and out of and to the region, especially Jabodetabek. 

But the government still allows the flow of people traffic within Jabodetabek, or, as the government calls it, the term 'agglomeration'.

The mass transportation within Jabodetabek, for example, the Commuter Line Electric Train (KRL) will not be stopped, including toll roads.

Because, the consideration is to make it easier for workers who continue to work, especially health workers, banks, and logistics in serving the needs of the community. 

If there are still people who are determined to go home, sanctions will be applied. Luhut still hasn't explained the details of the types of sanctions that will be applied. 

The government also distributes social assistance to the community, especially to the Greater Jakarta area. As directed by President Joko Widodo, all matters relating to the social safety net must also proceed immediately. On that basis, the government decided to ban homecoming this year. (*)
