Need Serious Attention, Tourist Visits in Batam Down to 54 Percent During Covid-19

Tourist visits to Batam City, Riau Islands Province plummeted since Covid-19 pandemic. Tourist arrivals even fell between 50 to 54 percent in Batam.

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Tourist visits to Batam City, Riau Islands Province plummeted since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Data from Indonesia Marketing Association (IMA) mentions, the decline in tourist arrivals even fell between 50 to 54 percent from February to March 2020.

"The number of tourist visits counted only 43 thousand compared to the usual which reached 90 thousand," said Batam City Government Economic and Development Assistant, Febrialin in a Tourism talkshow held by Indonesia Marketing Association (IMA), Saturday (5/17) yesterday.

Facing this matter, Head of Batam City Tourism Department, Ardiwinata added in the midst of the pandemic situation this time, the most important thing was to stem the spread of Covid-19, especially in terms of health.

Some of the efforts that have been made by Batam Government include mapping the distribution of disease, provision of basic food, and rationalization and budget allocation.

It also supports and runs the focus of efforts to prevent Covid-19 so that the world of tourism can run as before.

Because of Covid-19 outbreak, some tourism development has stalled.

One of them is the development of religious tourism in Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque and revitalization of Raja Ali Haji Museum in Batam.

"The Plain of Engku Hamidah has also begun to be beautified, but we will hold back on improving it step by step," he said.
