Government: Not Wearing Masks, Is the Main Factor in Spreading the New Case of Covid-19

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Government Spokesperson for Corona Virus Handling, Achmad Yurianto said, people who are not disciplined in keeping their distance and not wearing masks, are the main factors in the existence of new cases of Covid-19 transmission.

This also caused the distribution of new cases of Covid-19 to be high in several regions.

"Ignoring the rules of keeping distance, not wearing masks. This is a major factor in the distribution of new cases of Covid-19," Yuri said at a press conference at Graha BNPB, Thursday (6/25/2020). 

The condition of the people who did not keep their distance and did not wear masks caused at least a high number of new cases of Covid-19 in five regions.

As of Thursday, the government recorded 1,178 new cases of Covid-19 so that accumulatively there were 50,187 positive cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia.

The five areas are East Java (247 new cases and 241 patients recovered), DKI Jakarta (196 new cases and 112 patients recovered), South Sulawesi (103 new cases and 59 patients recovered), North Maluku (80 new cases and 1 patient recovered) ) and Central Java (78 new cases). 

The overall Covid-19 transmission occurred in 446 districts/cities in 34 provinces.

Furthermore, Yuri also reminded all that Covid-19 spread rapidly through droplets splashing out when sneezing or coughing.

"Wearing a mask is one effective way to keep the droplet from spreading. Moreover, there are still people without symptoms (OTG) around the community who have not done well isolation," he explained 

Previously, Yuri explained the risk of Covid-19 transmission would decrease if someone wears a mask.

He also divided it into four levels.

First, if someone who carries the virus (OTG) does not use a mask and has close contact with vulnerable people, then the possibility of transmission will reach 100 percent.

Second, if sick people wear masks, while vulnerable groups do not wear masks, then the potential for transmission reaches 70 percent. 

Third, if sick people wear masks, while healthy people don't wear masks, the transmission rate is only 5 percent.

Fourth, if both wear masks, then the potential for transmission is only 1.5 percent.
