Recruit ATB's Employees, BP Batam Apply Conditions That 'Force' Employees to Break Company Rules

TRIBUNBATAM.id -  Batam Business Entity (BP Batam) recruits PT Adhya Tirta Batam (ATB) employees to be distributed to operators managing the Batam Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) after the concession ends. However, BP Batam applies conditions that require ATB employees to violate the rules. 

"The requirements that are required by BP Batam can only be fulfilled if employees violate company regulations," said ATB Head of Corporate Secretary, Maria Jacobus. 

BP Batam has sent electronic mail to each ATB employee on Thursday (8/10/2020). Inside is an official letter signed by the Deputy for Business of BP Batam, Syahril Japarin, along with a form. 

In the body of the electronic mail, it is emphasized that the letter only applies to permanent employees of ATB. BP Batam asks non-permanent (contract) employees who receive the electronic mail to ignore it. To note, there are at least 150 contract employees at ATB. 

In the official letter numbered B-677 / A4 / SM.10 / 10/2020, BP Batam asked ATB employees to confirm that they are willing to join the SPAM management operator appointed by BP Batam. 

"The form must be signed on a stamp duty", he said.

Apart from the willingness to join, BP Batam also asks to attach an Employee Appointment Decree (SK), and a valid salary slip. Employees are also asked to explain in detail the job descriptions while working at ATB in a separate sheet.

According to Maria, these conditions could not have been met without violating company regulations. The reason is, the documents requested are confidential. 

As a company that has implemented ISO 27001 on Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), ATB applies strict rules regarding the distribution of confidential documents.

If any employee is caught distributing confidential documents without permission, they will be subject to strict sanctions, ranging from warning letters to dismissal. 

This is included in the Code of Conduct section B point 6. Where it is stated, employees may not divulge or reveal company secrets or defame the company's reputation. Also not allowed to provide information to other parties without the permission of the authorized official. 

Moreover, the steps taken by BP Batam by sending electronic mail directly to ATB employees are considered not upholding ethics. Until today, the status of ATB employees has not ended. Therefore, BP Batam should have asked permission from ATB before writing to the employees of the company. 

Maria emphasized that she would not prohibit employees who wish to join SPAM operations after the ATB concession ends. However, this should be done after not having a working relationship with ATB. (*)
