HEALTH DEPARTMENT BATAM - Batam Health Department, Didi Kusmarjadi mentioned the cause of the high death rate of Covid-19 cases.

Editor: Putri Larasati Anggiawan, BATAM - The number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Riau Islands Province (Kepri) is in the spotlight of Acting Governor for Riau Islands, Bahtiar Baharuddin.

He also asked regents / mayors throughout Riau Islands to complete respiratory aids and ventilators in every hospital and puskesmas (health center) in his district / city.

"The number of Covid-19 patients who have died continues to increase. Of course this condition is very worrying," said Bahtiar.

Head of Batam City Health Service, Didi Kusmarjadi, also responded to the Acting Governor for Riau Islands.

In general, all hospitals in Batam already have breathing aids and ventilators.

He revealed, the problem of death cases due to Covid-19 in Batam was actually constrained by the limited ICU isolation room space.

"The problem is not in the equipment, but the lack of isolation ICU space," said Didi, when questioned on Sunday (25/10/2020).

Isolation ICU rooms are commonly used in efforts to treat severe respiratory diseases that require emergency treatment and isolation, such as tuberculosis and severe Covid-19 symptoms.

According to him, ICU rooms are available in various hospitals, but specifically for isolation ICUs, only several.

There are quite a lot of rooms in Galang Covid-19 Hospital, but the problem is that this hospital lacks pulmonary specialists who can treat patients with severe Covid-19 symptoms.

"RSKI Covid-19 Galang has many (isolation ICU rooms), only there are no doctors," said Didi.

However, the risk level of death due to Covid-19 in Batam is relatively low, which is less than 3%.

Until now, as of October 24, 2020, of the cumulative number of 2571 positive patients with Covid-19, 1910 of them had recovered and 65 others died. ( Sekar Utami)
