Data from the Department of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection and Community Empowerment (DP3APM) in Tanjungpinang City noted that at least 35 couples chose to marry at an early age, ranging in age from 14 to 18 years.
The data was recorded between January and August 2020.
Meanwhile, from January to December 2019, there were only 30 couples who married at an early age.
Met at the Tanjungpinang Mayor's office, Thursday (10/12), she revealed that the increase in numbers was due to the swift influence of technology flows and the absence of school activities.

"Our step is to carry out a campaign related to stop early marriage. This campaign involves children with various positive activities and most importantly the role of parents is also involved," she told Tribunbatam.id
At the same location, the Head of the Tanjungpinang City Child Protection (DPA3PM), Elvi Arianti, stated that data per January to August who married at an early age were the same age as Junior High School to Senior High School.
"Of course, many pairs of children ask for recommendations, however, if they have not reached the stipulated 19 years of age, then
some of these recommendations cannot be accepted by the Religious Courts," she said.
