Earthquake in Indonesia: Magnitude 5.2, Residents of Majene Panic and Return to Evacuate

Meanwhile, the earthquake which was centered in the sea area in Majene Regency was also felt by residents in Polewali Mandar Regency.

TRIBUNBATAM.id -  The Head of Emergency BPBD Majene, Sirajuddin, said that an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 rocked Majene Regency, West Sulawesi, causing a number of residents to panic. 

The reason is, they're afraid that the building they're occupying will collapse.  

"Some residents who had returned home panicked, so they fled again," Sirajuddin told Kompas.com, Wednesday (3/2/2021). 

Sirajuddin said that some residents who come from two sub-districts in Majene Regency are still at a number of evacuation points. 

BPBD Majene hasn't received reports of damage or casualties caused by the earthquake

"The residents who were most affected by the earthquake on Wednesday afternoon were in Ulumanda and Malunda Districts," he said.

Meanwhile, the earthquake which was centered in the sea area in Majene Regency was also felt by residents in Polewali Mandar Regency.

One of the residents in Polewali, Andi said that he and several other residents had left the house when he felt the tremors caused by the earthquake

Previously it was reported, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 rocked Majene Regency, West Sulawesi and its surroundings on Wednesday (3/2/2021) at around 15:25 WIB.

Apart from Majene, this earthquake was reported to be felt by residents in Mamuju and Polewali Mandar.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Department (BMKG) said that the epicenter was 9 kilometers northwest of Majene. The epicenter was 18 kilometers deep. 

According to BMKG, this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami. 

For information, previously Majene Regency was shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on Friday (15/1/2021) around 01.28 WIB. (*)
