Residents Bite Finger, PPnBM Relaxation Program Doesn't Apply in Batam, Why?

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The government plans to impose a relaxation of the Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM) for the purchase of new cars by zero percent.

It is known, the relaxation of the new car tax will take effect from March 2021. 

Unfortunately, Batam residents have to bite their fingers. This is because the new car PPnBM relaxation policy doesn't apply in Batam.

Head of the Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of Riau Islands, Cucu Supriatna said, Batam wasn't one of the areas that received zero percent PPnBM relaxation.  

The reason is, Batam was a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) area which has received several facilities, such as the non-enforcement of this PPnBM.

"Batam has zero percent PPnBM," said Cucu Supriatna when met by Tribunbatam.id, Thursday (18/2/2021).

However, for areas that aren't included in the FTZ area, Cucu ensures that they will still receive the tax relaxation.

According to him, the zero percent tax relaxation for PPnBM is indeed very helpful for the community. 

"Because, usually, the tax can reach 20, 30, even 50 percent," he said.  

He explained that the zero percent tax relaxation will help the economy recover. The goal is that household consumption can boost the economy. 

"We are still experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic, and in this way, it can help the economic recovery in stages," he said.  (Tribunbatam.id/Rebekha Ashari Diana Putri)
